I am Rajat Chakrabarty. I am a Registered Psychotherapist registered with the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario. and a Social Worker registered with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers. I have completed my BSW and MSW from Ryerson University.

I help a broad range of clients and their families deal with various emotional issues. and am extensively trained in various psychotherapeutic modalities, including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Mindfulness-based interventions, Narrative Therapy Solution Focused Therapy, Couple/Marriage therapy and Clinical Hypnosis.

I have received most of my psychotherapy training directly from various world-class reputed clinicians, including Dr. Jon Kabat Zinn (the founder of MBSR), Dr. Zindel Segal (The founder of MBCT), Clinical Hypnosis (from Dr. Michael Yapko). I received my Gottman Method Couples Therapy (from Dr. John & Julie Gottman) from the Gottman Institute, a research-based approach to relationships. The Gottman Method is an approach to couples therapy that thoroughly assesses the couple’s relationship and integrates research-based interventions based on the Sound Relationship House Theory.

I often integrate clinical hypnosis to develop positive expectancy, amplify and work with emotion-laden memories, enhance cognitive flexibility, instill better coping skills and increase self-efficacy for the benefits of the therapeutic interventions. I am deeply passionate about focusing on wellness rather than pathology as Carl Jung stated rightly, “We are not what happened to us; we are what we wish to become.”

Gottman Interventions are designed to help couples strengthen their relationships in three primary areas: friendship, conflict management, and creating shared meaning.

I have been working in the mental health field for almost thirty years and have worked in India, the USA, and Canada in diverse settings, including community agencies, clinical settings, and in family health teams as a therapist.

I am specifically interested in the socio-political dimension of psychotherapy, the effect of racism, oppression and discrimination on self-esteem and identity formation. My approach to therapy is client-centered, strength-based, feminist, anti-oppressive, and trauma-informed. I always try to create a warm, inviting and collaborative space where I view my client as the expert of her/his own life, and my role is always an explorative helper on their journey to explore their inner worth to make changes.
